ABSTRACT :
Objectives of the Study:
General Objective: This rescarch was mainly conceptualized to examine the coping mechanism
employed by menopausal women of Barangay Asis I, Mendez, Cavite on the emotional effects of menopause. To achieve this objective, the following questions were posed: 1. What are the emotional effects affecting menopausal stage women? 2. How do the menopausal stage women cope with these emotional changes? 3. Is there a significant relationship between civil status and coping mechanisms on the emotional effects of menopausal syndrome? 4. Is there a significant relationship between educational attainment and coping mechanisms on the emotional effects of menopausal syndrome?
Methodology: A self report questionnaire was designed to gather pertinent data needed for this descriptive study. The questionnaire, after validation was distributed to respondents; menopausal women ages 45- 55 of Barangay Asis. Selected respondents were also interviewed to further synthesize the data gathered from the survey. Arithmetic mean, percentage and chi-square were used for data analysis. Arithmetic mean and percentage were used to answer specific questions one and two, while the relationship between educational attainment and civil status to coping mechanism, questions 3 and 4, was determined using chi-square.
Findings: The analysis of data revealed the following: 1. Lost of interest in sex was the most significant effect of menopause among the respondents. 2. Respondents preferred engaging in recreational activities like talking to friends, playing bingo and “tong-its” than involving themselves in community activities. 3. Spending time with friends is significantly related to civil status. 4. Community activities and spend time with friends are both significantly related to the respondents' educational attainment
Conclusions: Based on the above-mentioned findings, the following conclusions are forwarded: 1. Decrease in the interest of sex may be attributed to age. 2.
There is a preference for sedentary life among most of the respondents than engaging in social and civic activities in the community. 3. As coping mechanism for menopause, most of the respondents engage in social activities like chatting with friends and local gambling (tongits, bingo) to pass time. 4. There is a strong social relationship among the respondents as spending time with friends is significantly related to both civil status and educational attainment.

Recommendations: 1. Respondents could engage in more active life styles to further improve their coping mechanism to the menopausal syndrome. 2. Families of menopausal women should continue providing support by understanding the difficult period of menopause. 3. There should be a stronger role of local community Icaders and church leaders by developing more social, religious and entreprencurial programs to deviate the attention of menopausal women from social gambling. 4. Menopausal women should consult a doctor for further understanding, knowledge and assistance that they need. 5. Future rescarch on the topic could be donc in order to validate the result of this study. Furthermore, new rescarches on menopausal syndrome could include the other changes like physical and psychological cffects of menopause.
