Summary, etc. ABSTRACT<br/>OBJECTIVES OF THE STUDY: A. GENERAL: This study aimed to determine the level of job satisfaction of staff nurses in Capitol Medical Center. B. SPECIFIC: 1. What is the demographic profile of the respondents in terms of: 1.1 Gender 1.2 Age 1.3 Civil Status 1.4 Highest Educational Attainment 1.5 Hospital Areas 1.6 Employment Status 2. What is the level of job satisfaction of the respondents on the following factors: 2.1 Hospital Policies 2.2 Compensation 2.3 Relationship to co- nurses and others staff 2.4 Working Condition 2.5 Appreciation and Recognition 3. Is there a significant relationship between the demographic profile and the level of job satisfaction of the respondents? SCOPE AND LIMITATION: This study focused on the level of job satisfaction of staff nurses in Capitol Medical Center, Quezon City in the following areas: • Ward • ER • OR/DR • ICU NICU The survey was conducted from April 29 to May 5, 2009. Self report questionnaire was used in this study. Information was obtained from <br/>nurses' descriptions and claims in response to questionnaire regarding level of job satisfaction of staff nurses in the institution. METHODOLOGY: The normative survey technique was utilized in this study. Descriptive research design was used to answer questions and to satisfy curiosity in determining the level of job satisfaction of staff nurses in Capitol Medical Center, Quezon City. The data processing used for gathering the necessary information was the questionaire. The researchers used the total population of the staff nurses in the said areas of the hospital. SUMMARY OF FINDINGS: The results of the study were summarized based on the presentation, analysis and interpretation in the previous chapter. Demographic Profile of the Respondents 1.1 Based on the gender of the 53 respondents, 64.2% are female while 35.8% are male. 1.2 Based on the age of the 53 respondents, 58.5% are below 30 years old, 32.1% are from 30 to 39 and 9.4% are above 40. 1.3 Based on the civil status of the 53 respondents, 69.8% showing the majority of them are single while the remaining 30.2%z of them are married. 1.4 Based on the highest educational attainment of the 53 respondents, 93.6% are college graduates and 26.4% are post graduate degree holders. 1.5 Based on the hospital areas of the 53 respondents, 39.6% are stationed at the emergency room (ER), 17.0% are assigned at the operating room / delivery room and only 13.2% are stationed at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). 1.6 Based on employment status of the 53 respondents, 58.5% of the respondents have permanent employment classification while 41.5% of them are contractual. 2. Satisfaction with regards to hospital policies and relationship to co- nurses and other staff is high while satisfaction with regards to compensation (salary and benefits), working condition and appreciation and recognition is moderate. 3. Based on the computed chi-square value, 4.164 is lower than the tabular value of 9.488 at 0.05 level of significance with the degrees of freedom of 4. The null hypothesis which states that there is no significant relationship between gender and the factors affecting job satisfaction of the respondents, is therefore accepted. It can be implied that gender is not a significant factor affecting the job satisfaction of the respondents. Based on the computed chi-square value, 6.521 is lower than tabular value of 15.507 at 0.05 level of significance with the degrees of freedom of 8. The null hypothesis, which states that there is no significant relationship between the age and the factors affecting job satisfaction of the respondents therefore accepted. It can be implied that age is not a significant factor affecting the job satisfaction of the respondents. Based on the computed chi-square value, 4.335 is lower than the tabular value of 21.026 at 0.05 level of significance with the degrees of freedom of 12. The null hypothesis, which states that there is no significant relationship between the civil status and the factors affecting job satisfaction of the respondents, is therefore accepted. It can be implied that civil status is not a significant factor affecting the job satisfaction of the respondents. Based on the computed chi-square value, 3.551 is lower than tabular value of 9.488 at 0.05 level of significance with the degrees of freedom of 16. The null hypothesis, which states that there is no significant relationship between the hospital areas and the factors affecting job satisfaction of the respondents, is therefore accepted. It can be implied that the employment status is not a significant factor affecting the job satisfaction. CONCLUSION: Based on the findings of the study, the following conclusions were made: Majority of the respondents are female. This is due to the nature of job which is more on caring for patients. Most of the respondents are single and the respondents are college graduate, this may be due to the hospital's preference in favor of those nurses who have more experiences. Among the factors affecting job satisfaction, the relationship with co- nurses and other staff is given high consideration by the respondents. The demographic profile such as gender, age, civil status, highest educational attainment, hospital areas and employment status are not significantly related to the factors affecting job satisfaction. RECOMMENDATION: In view of the findings and conclusions derived from this study, the following recommendations are offered: 1. The administration should continuously recognize the importance of its staff nurses as a vital part of the institution. It is recommended that the following be observed in order to achieve higher level of job satisfaction that would in turn be translated to higher level of job performance. <br/>The good rapport among the hospital administrators, nurses and other employees should be maintained in order to achieve harmonious working relationships. The hospital policies should continuously be made more responsive to the needs of all the members of the institution to ensure that the people perform what is expected of them and at the same time to make them feel that their needs are also recognized and valued. The hospital should maintain an effective recognition system in order to uplift the morale of its work force. The working condition should be constantly improved so as to ensure the health and safety of the employees. The hospital should develop an updated salaries and benefits system to be able to provide commensurate pay to its human resources. Since this factor was found out to be the least of the factors affecting job satisfaction, it should be given the top priority if the hospital wants its employees to be more satisfied in their job. 2. The nurses should continuously seek personal and career development for them to be at pace with the changing trends in the nursing service. This may also boost their morale and self-esteem and eventually their feeling of satisfaction in the field that they have chosen. They should be sent to seminars and trainings and other enrichment activities that could make them more equipped to do their tasks in the hospital. They should also be open to changes and challenges. 3. Regular job analysis should be implemented in order to monitor the job performances of the employees; to evaluate the work performed against what is expected; to install appropriate rewards system; to update job designs; and to find out if the employees are satisfied with their work or not. For the future researchers to conduct the same kind of study utilizing a larger number of respondents and a wider scope of place of study in order to support, supplement, prove or disapprove the results of this research. <br/><br/>
