Summary: ABSTRACT This thesis entitled “Perception on Music Therapy in the Recovery Room of Patients Underwent Delivery in Estrella Hospital for the Period of January - February 2009”, aimed to determine the demographic profile of the patients which specifically include Age, Civil Status, 'Monthly Income and Educational Background. Second is to determine the effect of music to the patient towards recovery. Next, is to know the perception of the patient being rehabilitated with music therapy in their recovery and pain management and lastly, is to know if music therapy has a significant effect on recovery and pain management of the patient inside the recovery room. Descriptive survey method is the research design utilized in this study. Self-report questionnaires, which involve asking the patient with some questions were prepared in gathering data. A pre-test conducted in Parañaque Community Hospital was done to validate the instrument before the actual survey in Estrella Hospital. The data gathered, after administering the final copies to the actual respondents was tallied. The researchers then sought for the assistance of an expert statistician for the computation and interpretation of data. Percentage distribution and mean was utilized on the demographic profile of the respondents, while weighted mean was used on the effects of music to the patient towards their recovery. On the other hand, percentage distribution was also utilized in knowing the perception on the effects of music therapy on the patients' recovery and pain management, and lastly chi-square (22) test was used on hypothesis testing because the data were categorized. It was proven in the study, based on the result presented, that music therapy is only effective on the recovery of the patient but not on the pain management itself. This means that music therapy done to the patient can be attributed to their fast recovery. It is good and had given pleasing effects to the patients' perception. This study offered several recommendations based on the drawn conclusions. (1) the physician shall pushed a full information campaign for the mothers who are going to give birth with regards to the pain they may experience in giving birth; (2) a further research for an alternative measures or therapy beside music should be done to further help the patient with their battle with delivery pains; (3) for the hospital to inquire with the music genre preference of the patient; (4) for the institutions to improve their audios so that music can be heard smoothly by the patients; (5) the college of nursing should provide a beginning knowledge on the significance of music therapy to ameliorate the health condition of clients; and lastly (6) for the students to comprehend deeper on the benefits they could gain not merely listening to music but instead considering it as a therapy.
