ABSTRACT
General Objective
The general objective of the study was to determine the common causes of spontaneous abortion among selected pregnant women in Barangay San Jose, Tagaytay City.
Methodology:
This study utilized the descriptive method. An interview guide regarding the common causes of spontaneous abortion was used to gather data from the respondents. It was divided into two parts. The first part was the demographic data of the respondents and the second parts, the questionnaires that were composed of 20 items. The questions were based on the specific problem. The data were analyzed using frequency distribution and presented using pie graph. The table was also used to show clearly the results of the study.
Summary of Findings :
Sub-problem no. 1.What are the common causes of spontaneous abortion? 1. From the gathered data, the result revealed that majority of the causes of spontaneous abortion experienced by the respondents were caused by low uterine implantation and lifting of heavy objects 56.25% or 9 cut 16 respondents.
Sub-problem no. 2. What are the perceptions of the respondents on having spontaneous abortion?
2. According to the result of the study, the respondents' perceptions about spontaneous abortion were: vaginal bleeding (62.50%), fetus could not survive (12.50%), superstitious belief (12.50%), lack of knowledge (6.25%) and knowledge deficit because the respondents had no idea (6.25%). Sub-problem no.3. What are the factors that lead to common causes of spontaneous abortion?
3. Majority of the factors that led to common spontaneous abortion were due to the following: anatomical and physiological (81.25%), unknown (12.50%) and accident. 6.25%. Sub-problem no. 4.What are the effects of spontaneous abortion? 4. Most of the respondents experienced the effects of spontaneous abortion on their body and work (43.75%), on their work (25%), on their body only (6.25%) and on their relationship with their husband, body and work (6.25%). Some claimed that spontaneous abortion had no effects on them at all (18.75%). Sub-problem no.5. What are the ways to prevent spontaneous abortion? 5. Most of the respondents said that the best way to prevent occurrence of spontaneous abortion was having regular check-up and refraining from lifting of heavy objects 56.25%; refraining from lifting heavy objects or heavy works 25%, having a regular check-up 12.50%, and eating nutritious foods 6.25%.
Conclusion :
There was no significance difference in common causes of spontaneous abortion among selected pregnant women in Barangay San Jose, Tagaytay City during the year 2005. Specific Conclusions 1. The causes of spontaneous abortion were low uterine implantation and lifting of heavy objects, unknown or superstitious belief, drug induced or contraceptives, loose attachment of the fetus to the uterine surface, accident, and fatigue.
2. The perception of the respondents on spontaneous abortion were vaginal bleeding, fetus couldn't survive, superstitious beliefs, low uterine implantation, and lack of knowledge.
3. The factors that led to spontaneous abortion were anatomical physiological unknown, and accident.
4. The effects of spontaneous abortion on the respondents were manifested in their physical work, relationship with their husbands. Some mentioned that spontaneous abortion had no effect on them at all.
5. Spontaneous abortion could be prevented by doing the following: have a regular check-up, avoid lifting of heavy objects and eat nutritious food.
Recommendations:
Based on the results of the study the following are highly recommended:
1. Health Care team should give more attention in monitoring pregnant women by scheduling their regular check up, planning for intensive care of pregnant women who are at risk and implementing the best service that they can give in
order to have a better life and community and to prevent the occurrence of spontaneous abortion.
2. Local Government Unit should have programs to evaluate mothers and their knowledge about the causes and ways of preventing or lessening the occurrence of spontaneous abortion.
3. Pregnant Mothers should be aware of the common problems they may encounter during pregnancy; thus, they must have their regular check- up to monitor not only their status but the baby as well. They ought to attend seminars to have background knowledge about the complications of pregnancy especially spontaneous abortion. They should plan for their pregnancy so as to prevent occurrence of problem while they are pregnant.
4. Future researchers should make other studies to prove the findings of the study. They can use different communities and employ other techniques to improve their study. The following topics are recommended to those who want to conduct a similar study: a. The relationship of occupation and the occurrence of spontaneous abortion. b. The latest medical and nursing management rendered to prevent spontaneous abortion. C. The relationship between the educational status and the occurrence of spontaneous abortion. d. The influence of superstitious beliefs in the occurrence of spontaneous abortion. e. The scientific explanation of the doctors about the relation of low uterine implantation and lifting of heavy objects in having spontaneous abortion.
