Gastrointestinal (Gl) disorders range from intermittent heartburn to life-threatening Gl hemorrhage. One of the most common Gl disorders is gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), which affects an estimated 190 of adults in North America. This article discusses the advantages and disadvantages of acid-suppressive therapy for patients with GERD as well as relevant nursing considerations.
