TI - Effectiveness of operating room module on the performance of BSN-IV students in PCH OR U1 - OCP BSN 0300 2007 PY - 2007/// CY - Paramaque City PB - Olivarez College N1 - Includes Curriculum vitae N2 - ABSTRACT : This study aims to find out what would be the outcome of the Operating Room Module if we apply this new teaching method to the Related learning Experiences (RLE) in the Operating Room (OR) of the BSN-IV students. Thus, the study specifically seeks to answer the ff. questions: 1. What are the demographic profiles of the respondents in terms of: 1.1 Age 1.2 Gender 1.3 Civil Status 2. What are the effects of Structured Sequential Demonstration Instruction (SSDI) to the performance of the BSN-IV students? 2.1 Intellectual 2.2 Cognitive 2.3 Psychomotor 2.3.1 Identification of surgical instruments 2.3.2 Students' performance for surgical scrub 2.3.3 Students' performance for gowning and gloving The researchers employed the quasi- experimental design in gathering data in this study. The proposed study was conducted at ParaƱaque Community Hospital (PCH) wherein we have sixteen BSN-IV students who are having their completion and was our subject to participate in the research study. The tools that are used in the study are the following: A tool to determine and assess students' knowledge through a Pre test of a.) Identifying Instrument in the Operating Room b.) Principles of Aseptic Technique. These tests is consists of a 1-8 multiple choice question, 9-13 true or false and 14-15 identifying the two types of scrubbing. Another Quiz is a matching type of test in which respondent should identify the instrument by writing the letter of the correct answer before the number. a. tool to assess students in gowning and gloving technique, b. Scrubbing technique, c. handling commonly used instrument in the Operating Room (OR). The researcher utilized the t-test to verify the significant difference betweens means both in intellectual and cognitive aspect of the students in order to come up with the effect of using the Operating Room (OR) Module on the said aspects. Mean was also utilized to determine the average performance of the samples together with the standard deviation to observe the closeness of the scores thus giving way for the application of t test and the Pearson r was also used to validate the results of the t test. We have formulated that Ho: There is no significant effect of Operating Room (OR) Module on the performance of BSN-IV students on both intellectual and cognitive aspect. Ha: There is a significant effect of Operating Room (OR) Module on the performance of BSN-IV students. The group was able to come up with the following summary based on the findings of this study: The demographic profile of the respondents shows that the mainstreams are females that comprise 69% and males are 31%. As to age, most of them fall at the age of 20 and for their civil status 100% are still single and they all come from Olivarez College. Based on the statistical analysis of this study, it was proved that the differences of the means both in intellectual and cognitive aspect are significant which could be the result of using Operating Room module. Further, Pearson r formula validated the results and it was mentioned that the use of the Operating Room module (OR) has its low positive effect on the intellectual aspect of the students but was also noted that this Operating Room (OR) Module has no effect at all on the cognitive aspect. In psychomotor, the accuracy of skills both in three areas namely; handling surgical instruments, scrubbing, gowning and gloving was near to perfection although there were few areas of concern in each categorical skills that needs improvement on the part of the students ER -
