The purpose of the current study was to investigate how family legacies and parental depression shape everyday routines for parenting of generation Z pre-teen children in rural communities in the Ozark Mountains. A paradigm case is presented. This study draws attention to the taken-for-granted aspects of parenting, including the ways family legacies of parents shape experiences of raising pre-teen children and further revealed their everyday routines. Findings from this study reinforce the need to explore whether parenting stress resulting from adverse childhood events affect pre-teen child outcomes, including behavioral, emotional, and academic outcomes
