Abstract:
Intimate partner violence against women is the most common form of violence suffered by women and constitutes a sever effect on the victims. Gender-based violence is still prevalent in Baguio City. Using a qualitative design, this study looked into the physical and psychological abuse reported in Baguio City police station from 2015-2019. The study involved ten (10) police station in Baguio City. The study was conducted from September to November 2020. In treating the data collected. the researchers made use of thematic analysis. The result showed that the victims experienced: physical violence by mauling, kicking, slapping, pushing, punching, and pulling hair; and psychological violence such as verbal abuse; and illicit affair by their partners. It was also revealed the challenges encountered by the WCPD in dealing with cases of Republic Act No. 9262, such as withdrawal of complaints and uncooperative victims. However, affection towards their family, avoidance of broken family, financial dependence on their partners, fear, and insufficient facilities to cater to victims are the reasons behind the challenges encountered in dealing with R.A. No. 9262. The study further established that the intervention programs done by the women and child protection (WCPD) in dealing with crimes related to gender-based violence include awareness to programs, marriage counselling, and stress management seminars.
