ABSTRACT
This study determined the mathematical ability of grade 11 STEM
students in Olivarez College Tagaytay. This study has been motivated by the
realization that students are having a hard time dealing with Mathematics
subject. Thus, it is important to measure the Mathematical ability of the
students. The researchers used the Quantitative descriptive design for this
study. Data for this study were collected through the use of test questionnaire
that is adapted from "ACCUPLACER: Sample Questions for Students (2016)".
Random sampling technique was used to get the respondents of this study in
the form of fishbowl method. The respondents for this study were the students
of STEM strand, section Peridot and Amethyst, who are currently in grade 11
during the academic year 2018-2019. The data were analyzed through the
use of percentage frequency distribution and weighted average. This study
resulted to four major findings: first, majority of the students under STEM
strand are male; second, most of the respondents are still minor and in the
age of 16; third, majority of the respondents under the STEM strand are from
the section Peridot; lastly, most of the respondents' mathematical ability is
"Good'". Generally, the respondent's Mathematical ability is "Good". This
means that the students at this level possesses the minimum knowledge,
skills and understanding that allows them to answer the questionnaire with few
mistakes. The results pointed the need for improvement on the part of the
students through practicing different study habits such as taking quizzes and
test corrections as well as the use of auxiliary materials for some guides.
