Summary: ABSTRACT Main Objective To determine the level of awareness on the safety measures of patient with epilepsy in Barangay Malaruhatan, Lian, Batangas. Methodology This study used the descriptive research method in the form of survey. A survey, wherein the researchers formulated self-report questionnaires that answered by the chosen respondents. The questionnaires served as the instrument in data gathering. Information gathering is done through, observation, interviewed and document analysis. The researchers used appropriate statistical treatment in collected data. The data are presented by means of frequency tables and bar graphs to represents the magnitude if quantities of the complication. Summary of Findings The study was conducted to determine the level of awareness of safety measures of person with epilepsy in Brgy. Malaruhatan, Lian, Batangas. The descriptive method of research was utilized and the normative survey technique was used for gathering the data. The questionnaire served as the instrument for collecting data. The respondents were ages 18 years and above, 50 respondents were involved in the study. The research was conducted between the months of February and March, 2009. After data analysis, the following information was found: • Majority of the respondents, 23 or 46% belonged to 21-40 years old age bracket followed by eighteen (18) or 36% under the age bracket of 18-20 years and eight (8) or 16% respondents belonged to the 8-20 years old; and one (1) or 2% respondent that belonged to 60 years old bracket. Above65% of the respondents were females and 8 of them were mothers; Majority of the respondents were female, thirty (30) or 60%, while the remaining twenty (20) or 35% were male; Twenty-five (25) or 50% of the total respondents were single while twenty-three (23) or 46% were married and the remaining two (2) or 4% were widow.; Majority of the respondents were high school graduates with twenty-two (22) or 44%, and nine (9) or 18% reached high school level. Some of the respondents were college level with six (6) or 12%, and five (5) or 10% were elementary graduates. Respondents who reached 4 or 8% elementary level and college graduates obtained. Most of the respondents' occupations were housewife with fifteen (15) or 30%. This was followed by businessman/woman with ten (10) or 20%. No response from salesman/saleslady, which have eight (8) and seven (7) or 16%, and 14% of the respondents, respectively. Manager and security guard have only one (1) or 2%.; The computed over-all mean of 1.94 showed that the respondents had a low level of awareness on the knowledge regarding epilepsy. The computed over-all mean of 1.92 showed that the respondents had a low level of awareness on the safety measure of a person with epilepsy.There is no significant relationship between the profiles and level of awareness on the safety measures of the respondents. It can be implied that the age, gender, civil status, educational attainment and occupation are not significant related to the level of awareness on the safety measures of the respondents. Conclusion 1. The computed over-all mean of 1.94 showed that the respondents had a low level of awareness on the knowledge regarding epilepsy. 2. The computed over-all mean of 1.92 showed that the respondents had a low level of awareness on the safety measure of a person with epilepsy. The Null hypothesis which states that, there is no significant relationship between the profiles and level of awareness on the safety measures of the respondents was accepted. It can be implied that the age, gender, civil status, educational attainment and occupation has no significant related to the level of awareness on the safety measures of the respondents. Recommendations The following recommendations and were offered after having assessed and determined the results of the study: 1.The researchers suggest to the Public Health Workers to coordinate with the Philippine League Against Epilepsy (PLAE) and Epilepsy Awareness and Advocacy, Inc. (EAAI) to extend the aims of the association in promoting Epilepsy Awareness; The Public Health Workers should conduct health teaching to the people of Barangay Malaruhatan regarding the safety measures of person with Epilepsy. The Public Health Workers should recommend the proper way of 3. handling a person with Epilepsy or who is having a seizure. The researchers encourage the people to read materials about Epilepsy for further information and to have enough knowledge and awareness about it. The researchers suggest to the Public Health Workers to conduct a seminar or campaign about Epilepsy. 6. The researchers also suggest that persons with Epilepsy must visit a specialist in order to be provided with a proper medication to control their seizure/s.
