ABSTRACT
General Objective:
The study was conducted to know the factors that influence the perception of Olivarez College Tagaytay, College of Nursing Students on Approval or Disapproval in the idea of Engagement on Premarital sex. Specifically, the study aims to: 1. know the prominent reason under each factor that influences the perception of Olivarez College - Tagaytay, College of Nursing students on approval in the idea of engagement to premarital sex. 2. know the prominent reasons under each factor that influences the perception of Olivarez College- Tagaytay, College of Nursing students on disapproval in the idea of engagement to premarital sex. 3. know the three prominent factors that influence the perception of Olivarez College – Tagaytay, College of Nursing students on approval or disapproval in the idea of engagement to premarital sex.
Methodology The proponents used a Descriptive Design as a method to be able to describe the important information needed to answer the specific problems extracted out from the general problem. The study had 204 Olivarez College - Tagaytay, College of Nursing students as a sample size, these 204 was then distributed into 4 different strata. To be able to obtain the needed data, the proponents used 2 research instruments: Survey and Interview. The results gathered were then computed using the weighted mean - an index that is usually referred to as an average.
Conclusion The researchers conclude that there are significant factors that influence the perception of Olivares College -Tagaytay College of Nursing students on approval or disapproval in the idea of engagement to premarital sex. Sub-Problem 1. Under each factor, what is the prominent reason that influences Olivarez College - Tagaytay, College of Nursing students' perception on the idea of approval in engagement to premarital sex? A. Under the factor "peer pressure", the prominent reason that influences the perception of Olivarez College - Tagaytay, College of Nursing students to the idea of approval to premarital sex is receiving the recognition from the friends for scoring a boy or a girl. B. Under the factor "parental influences", the prominent reason that influences the perception of Olivarez College - Tagaytay, College of Nursing students to the idea of approval to premarital is the poor parent-child interaction that leads to rebellious act C. Under the factor "religion", the prominent reason that influences the perception of Olivarez College - Tagaytay, College of Nursing students to the idea of approval to premarital is being fearless to God and the corresponding punishment to the act. D. Under the factor "mass media“, the prominent reason that influences the perception of Olivarez College - Tagaytay, College of Nursing students to the idea of approval to premarital is the sexual activities portrayed in movies, TV and advertisements. E. Under the factor "love and affection to the partner", the prominent reason that influences the perception of Olivarez College - Tagaytay, College of Nursing students to the idea of approval to premarital is the sense of readiness of both partner to experience premarital sex. Sub Problem 2. Under each factor, what is the prominent reason that influences Olivarez College - Tagaytay, College of Nursing students' perception on disapproval in the idea of engagement to premarital sex? A. Under the factor "peer pressure", the prominent reason that influences the perception of Olivarez College - Tagaytay, College of Nursing students to the idea of disapproval to premarital sex is belonging to a circle of friends that are not practicing premarital sex. B. Under the factor “parental influences" the prominent reason that influences the perception of Olivarez College Tagaytay, College of Nursing students to the idea of disapproval to premarital sex is giving the importance to the values that was taught by their parents. C. Under the factor “religion”, the prominent reason that influences the perception of Olivarez College - Tagaytay, College of Nursing students to the idea of disapproval to premarital sex is obeying the written order of the Lord. D. Under the factor "mass media” the prominent reason that influences the perception of Olivarez College - Tagaytay, College of Nursing students to the idea of disapproval to premarital is having the knowledge that engagement to premarital sex specifically unsafe sex may lead to having Sexually Transmitted Disease. E. Under the factor "love and affection to the partner", the prominent reason that influences the perception of Olivarez College - Tagaytay, College of Nursing students to the idea of disapproval to premarital is the love and respect to their partner. 4. Maintain their faithfulness to God because as our creator, God doesn't want us to be hamed and it in case we make a mistake, He will let us rise again, continue living and that mistake be our lesson. 5. Be aware of the pros and cons of premarital sex because once a mistake is committed it could never be undone. B. Parents 1. Be open minded regarding the issue of sexuality so that they could guide their children who are in the process of exploring and being curious about sex- whether to engage or not 2. Let their children be open to them
communicate to them because this will strengthen their bonding and trust to one another. 3. Impart right and correct knowledge, facts and consequences on whether to engage or not in premarital sex. 4. Spend time with their children, so that they can discuss openly what is happening to their studies, lives and relationships as well. 5. Keep in mind that their children are no longer young, they have to learn to decide for themselves, be independent and how to rise when they fall but of course still with their proper guidance because parenting never stops. 1. The Guidance Counselors should conceptualize guidance programs for adolescents about sexual attitude toward their sexual commitments. The information given should increase the student's understanding and broaden their perception whether to engage or not in premarital sex. 2. The guidance counselors should provide counseling sessions available for the students who might need help, proper guidance and advice regarding the troubles they are facing in their relationship and confusions on their perceptions on whether to engage or not in premarital sex. 3. The faculty members, as second parents, should always inculcate virtues and serve as guide in the moral aspects of their students. 4. The administrators, spiritual and moral activities should be developed, implemented and continued so as to maintain the values that the students already have. D. Government Agencies 1. The Department of Education, they should impose strict standards in releasing of materials regarding sex and sexuality so as to control and minimize misinterpretation of facts and information about those matters. 2. The MTRCB, they should be strict in allowing sensual films to be aired in movie houses and televisions. They should be reminded that these sensual films have influence to adolescent's perception about sexuality since it can be taken negatively and/or positively. E. Programs Recommended Because of the sensitivity of the matters of sexual relations especially premarital sex and because of its prevalence among the youth today, certain programs could prove to be both beneficial and significant The following programs and seminars are suggested by the researchers for consideration: 1. Seminars discussing the alarming rate of adolescents engaging in premarital sex should be conducted not only to remind the youth of the importance of morality and being knowledgeable in such area but also to protect them from the danger it entails. 2. Spiritual seminars in which members are educated about the wisdom of obeying God's command regarding sexuality. Proving youth with Biblical principles and moral leadership may help them realize its importance. F. Further Researches 1. Researches on some topic but done on a different setting to reduplicate or refute the findings of this study. 2. Further researches involving the variables or factors not included in this study such as curiosity, cultural values and practices and level of maturity.
