Individuals in the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer (or questioning), asexual (or allied), intersex (LGBTQAI) community may experience higher levels of trauma than the general population. Trauma-informed care is an evidence-based method of providing care to patients who identify as LGBTQAI to prevent retraumatization of the individual. Therefore, using principles of trauma-informed nursing with these individuals is of utmost importance.
