521 _aABSTRACT In a virtual learning setting teaching knowledge and expected competencies in the field of health and medicine remarks as a great challenge. To enhance the skills and knowledge, the application of Problem-based learning or PBL in the process in higher education is utilized. The study aimed to determine the implications of Problem-based learning. Specially, this study seeks to identify the effects of Problem-based learning to the academic performance of BSN student in Olivarez College Tagaytay. The study utilized a mixed method design convergence-parallel approach to directly compare the quantitative statistical results and qualitative findings. The data were collected through review of records and through interviews by which the participants described their experience. The collected material formed the basis for analysis and discussion of the results using thematic analysis. The findings showed that the PBL teaching approach is beneficial to students' learning because it encourages the integration of theory and practice, which improves motivation to learn. This is reflected through the three emerging themes; Overwhelming Problem-based Learning Requirements, Augmentation of Cognitive Ability amidst Difficulty and Inducement of eagerness to adaptation of PBL demands, thus clearly addressing multidimensional experiences of the participants. In the quantitative, the P value result is <0.5 which shows that there is a significant relationship between the theoretical and RLE component to the academic performance of Nursing students.
